The Roma neighborhood has been named several times since it is one of the oldest in Mexico City and it is because of its antiquity that it has been filled with Mexican legends that even today continue to provoke fear.

One of these legends is the black house, a construction located on Alvaro Obregón Avenue that is in complete abandonment, with broken glass and evident signs of vandalism with graffiti painted on its walls. The neighbors assure that something terrifying is happening inside the house, since at nightfall they can hear knocks, footsteps and even murmurs.

The origin of the house dates back to the thirties and forties when the city was going through the typhoid era, which could be treated, but it was not so easy to find a solution for all the sick, several were sent to makeshift hospitals including the black house that treated the sick 24 hours a day.

Typhoid was on the rise and several religious groups blamed demons for the disease and the way it spread made people think that if you got sick it was a divine punishment, so religious fanatics set fire to the black house with all the staff and patients inside.
