    Después de estudiar periodismo, Julia Roberts participó en anuncios publicitarios y en una película para televisión. Gracias a su hermano, el actor Eric Roberts, debuta en la gran pantalla en pequeñas producciones como ‘Mystic Pizza’ (1988).

    Se abre paso en el mundo del cine gracias a ‘Magnolias de acero’ (1989), de Herbert Ross, y sobre todo a ‘Mujer bonita’ (1990), de Garry Marshall, por la que ganó dos Globos de Oro y obtuvo dos nominaciones a los Oscar. Sus siguientes papeles, en ‘Línea mortal’ (1990), de Joel Schumacher, y ‘Durmiendo con su enemigo’ (1991), de Joseph Ruben, tuvieron menos repercusión entre el público, aunque eso no dañó su popularidad. Gracias a sus colaboraciones con Robert Altman en ‘El juego de Hollywood’ (1992), y su papel en ‘El informe Pelícano’ (1993), de Alan J. Pakula, vuelve a lo más alto de la escena cinematográfica.

    After studying journalism, Julia Roberts participated in commercials and a television movie. Thanks to her brother, actor Eric Roberts, she debuted on the big screen in small productions such as 'Mystic Pizza' (1988).

    She made her breakthrough in the world of cinema thanks to 'Steel Magnolias' (1989), by Herbert Ross, and especially 'Pretty Woman' (1990), by Garry Marshall, for which she won two Golden Globes and received two Oscar nominations. Her next roles, in Joel Schumacher's 'Deadly Line' (1990) and Joseph Ruben's 'Sleeping With Your Enemy' (1991), had less impact with the public, although that did not harm her popularity. Thanks to her collaborations with Robert Altman in 'The Hollywood Game' (1992), and her role in 'The Pelican Report' (1993), by Alan J. Pakula, she returns to the top of the film scene.

    The actress returns to her beginnings by starring in romantic comedies such as 'My Best Friend's Wedding' (1997); 'Notting Hill' (1999); 'Girlfriend on the Run', in which she reunites with Richard Gere, and 'The Couple of the Year' (2001). But she also plays more delicate roles in 'Mary Reilly' (1996), by Stephen Frears, and 'Michael Collins' (1996), by Neil Jordan. In 2000, she established herself as an actress thanks to 'Erin Brockovich', and became one of the most popular in Hollywood by winning the Oscar for Best Actress.
