    The virgin of Guadalupe

One of the most popular traditions in Mexico is the celebration of the Virgin of Guadalupe on December 12th.

    What does the tradition say?

The stories about the apparition say that one morning, the Patron Saint of Mexico met for the fourth time with the Indian Juan Diego, while he was collecting water. The Virgin insisted he show up, once again in front of the bishop, asking him to build his temple on that hill. This time she ordered him to climb Tepeyac Hill, cut roses and then take them to the bishop.

The Indian Juan Diego climbed the hill and the first miracle happened: he found the most luxuriant roses in the middle of the autumn in the Valley of Mexico where nothing grows. When Bishop Zumárraga received the humble Indian, he extended his yacht where he had the roses and the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe appeared, dark like the Mexicans. This happened in 1531.
